MVP of Hope: Why Linda Donates

Updated: Mar 17

Not all MVPs wear jerseys—some wear hospital gowns, fight battles they never expected, and come out stronger than ever.

Meet Linda McLaughlin, a cancer survivor who is turning her journey into action. After overcoming abdominal cancer, Linda now donates and volunteers with the Abdominal Cancers Alliance to ensure others receive the support and resources they need.

💙 Why does she give back? In her own words:

"When you are diagnosed with appendix cancer & PMP (1-2 per million/year), you are first in shock - ‘I have what?  Nobody has ever heard of it.  Then comes the deep dive – researching, finding experts, making life-saving decisions.  It’s a journey that nobody wants to be on.  But when you are, INFORMATION IS EVERYTHING.  Your life depends on it...

If not for the resources I found online, I would not be here today.  Awareness and education saves lives – not just for patients like me but for doctors who first encounter these rare cases, particularly OBGYNs and general surgeons.  We must expand access to information, connect with other patient groups, get patients to specialists, and train medical professionals on the best course of action for their patients.  I was fortunate my search led me to Dr. Sardi, an internationally recognized expert of over 30 years.  Not everyone does and it is unfortunate...

We need to increase those numbers, save lives and improve outcomes for as many patients as possible.  To execute on our mission, it takes dedicated people, time, and funding to make it happen.

This is why I donate and proudly serve on the PFCCAP Board - to pay it forward so others can get the care they need and be given the same second chance I was given, living my best life cancer free!"

Linda’s story is a reminder of the power of hope, resilience, and generosity. You can join her in making a difference. And this month, every donation is MATCHED dollar for dollar, up to $5,000, as part of our March Madness Matching campaign!
